Thrilling time ahead in Darlington

First published: Friday 22 Oct 2021

Halloween fever will grip Darlington town centre next weekend.

From shrieking witches to mad scientists and a thriller mass dance finale, the town centre will be full of scares and screaming good fun on Saturday 30 October.

The fearful fun starts at 11am until 5pm with street theatre across the town centre. Visitors can be brave on Bondgate with The Shrieking Witches by Tracks Darlington who will sing Halloween music for little ones, while the winding yards will be home to living statues and the sounds of Raijin Drummers will fill the streets from 2pm.

If the outdoors gets too scary, visitors can head indoors and enjoy spooky science in the indoor market, free arts and crafts in the Cornmill Centre and grab a selfie with the green screen Gif experience in Queen Street Shopping Centre.

At 5pm everyone is welcome to join in the fearsome finale to the day as a mass dance to Thriller springs into action in the market square. Dancers and non-dancers of all abilities are welcome to dress up and join in the Thriller mass dance and Halloween disco.

Fit LAB in the Dolphin Centre have produced a video to show you how to learn the routine:

Councillor Alan Marshall, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for economy and regeneration, said: “Halloween is a great time for families to get out and about and have some fun and our town centre team has put together a fantastically fearsome day of entertainment and activities.

“Many thanks to Fit LAB for working with us on the Thriller dance routine – now’s the time to get involved and learn the moves, put your best foot forward and come to Darlington.”

Town centre visitors can also enjoy two hours free parking in selected town centre car parks and are advised to read parking signage carefully and display a ticket from the machine.
