The Border Mill A range of hand-dyed yarns in natural fibres, inspired by the culture and landscapes that surround us. We'll have individual balls/skeins of yarn, as well as kits and sets. Processed and spun in the Scottish Borders.

Durham Guild of Spinners, Weavers & Dyers exists to promote and preserve the textile crafts of spinning, weaving, dyeing and other related crafts e.g. felting. We are affiliated to the National Association of Guilds of Weavers, Spinners & Dyers and are a registered charitable organisation. We hold monthly meetings on the 1st Saturday of every month in Durham, at which we offer a warm welcome to new members at all levels of experience, including absolute beginners.

Mad About Wool Lone, who learnt to knit in Denmark at the age of four, is the main creative inspiration behind the sewn and knitted goods on display. These are mostly things which can be used or worn such as cushions, hats, gloves, socks and other clothing but which can serve as items and can often be highly decorated in a wide range of different techniques.  As a traditional woodworker, Chris came later to textiles through learning to spin wool.  This he does on wheels he makes himself especially the Great Wheels which used to be very common but have almost been forgotten.  One of Lone’s specialties is to cover secondhand chairs with knitting in a variety of themes.

Mandy Bond Wool and Yarn is a Darlington-based retailer specialising in high-quality wool, yarn, and crafting supplies, offering a diverse range of products from brands like James C Brett, Wendy Wools, and Cygnet Yarns. They cater to knitters and crocheters of all skill levels, providing materials in various weights (DK, Aran, Chunky) for projects like blankets, sweaters, and accessories.

Natural Born Dyers naturally dyed yarns, with a focus on the finer weights, together with a range of hand-turned wooden accessories for knitters and spinners. They are based in the County Durham village of Esh Winning.

Red Robin Mixed Media and Textiles We use locally sourced wool fibres from North Yorkshire and produce felted landscapes and floral embroidery. Botanical cast are also handmade using fresh flowers and an array of painting media.  

Rock a bye baby We are a North East family run business having been retailing wool/yarn and baby products for approximately 26 years.  Our shop is open Monday to Thursday to the public, then we attend markets Friday, Saturday and the odd Sunday as well as being online and on Social media.  We pride ourselves on bringing the best value, quality yarns to our customers selling a range of leading yarns from James C Brett, King Cole, West Yorkshire Spinners, Stylecraft, Woolcraft and more as well as many accessories needed to complete your project. The Woolmouse a small independent retailer stocking a hand picked range of commercial & hand dyed yarns, including our own brand Lovehandyed by David. We also carry a full range of accessories and woolly associated products, crochet kits & related gifts.

The York Guild of Weavers, Spinners and DyersWe are a vibrant group of people of all skill levels who have a passion for learning and developing their weaving, spinning and dyeing or any other fibre-craft skills together

Drop In Activities and Learning

Darlington Library will be joined by the Darlington Wool Spinners group who will be demonstrating the ancient tradition of spinning, you can also try it yourself. Our local studies department will providing historic information about Darlington’s wool trade and how it helped finance the railway industry. Pom Pom making will be available to our younger visitors and there will also be the chance to crochet personalised squares to form part of a huge, knitted blanket that will go on display in the library once complete.

The Wigglypath Company learn tapestry skills and have a go at this craft, make your own mini tapestry piece (limited numbers)
