Darlington’s restaurant scene has quite literally never been better; there is so many to choose from. Depending on the cuisine you’re favouring as your pre-theatre meal, we can recommend the below places that are all within walking distance to the theatre.
Conveniently located directly opposite The Hippodrome, on Parkgate, Banrai offers a delicious selection of traditional Thai dishes.
Indulge in some gorgeous Turkish cuisine at Meze, also conveniently located right beside The Hippodrome.
Al Forno, based on Skinnergate, is the oldest Italian restaurant in Darlington and offers a range of tasty authentic dishes.
The Loft Steakhouse & Grill (Grill)
If you’re after elegant steakhouse dining for a pre-show meal, then this is your place. The Loft Steakhouse & Grill is located on Crown St and dishes up mouth-watering steaks.
Experience vibrant Indian cuisine like never before at Babul’s, based in Skinnergate. With unique street food choices to traditional curries, there is something for everyone in this restaurant.
The Old Yard Tapas Bar (Mediterranean)
If Mediterranean food is your go-to, then you must try The Old Yard Tapas Bar before going to the show. The menu is jam-packed full of scrumptious authentic Greek and Spanish tapas dishes.

Pubs and bars are plentiful in Darlington town centre, and many aren’t a far walk from The Hippodrome, making it super easy to have a pit stop before enjoying SIX. Read on to find out the bar we’d recommend stopping off at.
The Hippo Lounge is a given since it is tucked nicely in the theatre’s entrance. This’d be good for if you arrive to the theatre late and still want a quick drink, before finding your seat.
The Vault is set as a 1920s ‘speakeasy’ bar and is located underneath the Indoor Market. The bar gives off immense theatre vibes, making it the perfect stop off on the way to The Hippodrome.
The William Stead is part of the Wetherspoon chain and is only a short walk to the theatre. If you’d like a cheap and cheerful stop then head over to Crown Street to find this pub.
Thinking of extending your stay even longer and staying overnight?
If you’re considering staying overnight to prolong your stay and Enjoy Darlington further, then there is a Premier Inn only a 5-minute walk from The Hippodrome. There is also another Premier Inn and a Travelodge on the outskirts of town, which are both only a 6-minute drive from the theatre.
If you do choose to stay overnight and explore Darlington further, why not head up Grange Road or Duke Street to have a yummy breakfast? There are a range of lovely cafés along both roads that provide moreish breakfasts such as Maggie’s, Imperial Express and The Juniper Tree.
