Things to do in Darlington for autumn & winter 2023

As the air turns a little colder and the leaves start to turn brown, it's clear that autumn and winter are upon us. And with the change in the season comes a whole load of new exciting events and things to do!

Heathers the Musical – Tuesday 3 October to Saturday 7 October

The hugely popular West End and Broadway show, Heathers, will be hitting the Hippodrome this season! This is going to be a sellout, so make sure you grab your tickets while you can.

Hilarity Bites Comedy Club – 7 October and 4 November

If you're a fan of comedy, you'll love the monthly Hilarity Bites Comedy Club at The Forum. Each month, the comedians and host are switched up, giving you the chance to see a range of comedians at a fantastic price. Book your tickets Hilarity Bites Comedy Club.

Northern Echo Arena Wedding Show – Sunday 8 October

Are you getting married soon and on the hunt for suppliers? This event could be perfect for you! Footloose the Musical – Wednesday 25 October to Saturday 4 November

The musicals are well and truly heading to the Hippodrome with Footloose following close behind Heathers. This show will be performed by Darlington Operatic Society and will feature classic 80s hits, dazzling dance, and so much fun. Book your Footloose tickets.

Darlington Restaurant Week - Monday 30 October to Sunday 5 November

If you’re after something delicious to do in the winter months, why not get a slice of the action at Darlington Restaurant Week? This biannual event will be back, giving you the opportunity to explore Darlington through your tastebuds. There’s a range of venues to choose from, each offering a marvellous menu with discounted prices, including the popular three courses for £20. Diwali Lantern Parade - Saturday 11 November from 6pm to 8pm

Come and celebrate the festival of light in at Darlington town centre’s first ever Diwali lantern parade. Featuring lanterns created by local children and groups, the centre will become awash with light and colour on Saturday 11 November from 6pm to 8pm. Help the town mark this important Hindu festival and see the incredible parade!

Darlington Christmas Lights Switch On - Sunday 19 November

The Christmas Lights Switch On marks the official start of the festive season in the town centre, so head down and see this glittering spectacle. This is an incredibly popular local event, featuring live performances and an appearance from Santa Claus, the big man himself. This is the perfect winter event to get yourself and your family in the festive spirit and to see Darlington come alive with Christmas magic. This event will be held on Sunday 19 November with entertainment starting from 4pm.

Calendar Girls the musical – Tuesday 21 November to Saturday 25 November

Another brilliant musical to enjoy at the Hippodrome this season is Calendar Girls. This new production of the award-winning Gary Barlow and Tim Firth musical features unforgettable songs and a story of remarkable women. Book your Calendar Girls tickets.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs panto – Friday 8 December to Sunday 31 December

It wouldn't be winter without a panto, would it? The Hippodrome's pantomime is always a huge hit with families and this year's will be no different. Come and grab a front row seat for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, starring Gareth Gates and Jenny 'The Vixen' Ryan. Book your panto tickets.

Ice Sculpture Trail – Saturday 9 December from 10am to 5pm

Winter will well and truly hit Darlington when the ice sculpture trail heads to town! This trail is a fantastic way to explore the centre, featuring hand carved sculptures to find on the historic streets. There will be a whole host of icons and characters to find, and a trail map will be available on www.enjoydarlington.co.uk from mid-November. Make sure you snap a selfie and share it on social media for us to see!

Cinderella panto – Saturday 16 December to Thursday 28 December

If one panto wasn't enough, there's another in Darlington! The Majestic will be hosting performances of Cinderella, the classic story of true love conquering all and a glass slipper. This is a Christmas pantomime classic, so book your tickets and bring the family for a fantastic show.
